BAACon 2013, hosted by Japanese Anime Asylum of Baruch College, started with a rainy day. The Convention staff were super nice and friendly. Performances were delayed and cut short because of a shortage of time. Panels were postponed/cancelled due to lack of people showing up. Most of the con goers were there for the card game tournaments, Magic The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. Anime viewing rooms were mostly empty. Convention goers also mainly stayed in the Maid Café where they were serving free food and soda. The highlight of the convention was the performances. The Rainbow Bubble Girls did a splendid performance, even though Hitomi Hime wasn’t able to attend. Sneko Nyan and her dancers were also very good. “Dealer room” was ran in a room with a panel going on.
Last year, I attended the same convention. It had a higher attendance which made it more fun. The weather was nicer too, making it easier for con goers and performers to get to the convention. I’m sure this year’s drop in attendance was due in part to the weather.
Overall, I still enjoyed the convention and would come back next year to see old friends and make new ones. I look forward to seeing what improvements would be made. .
